High Angle Rescue Course in Calgary

This High Angle Rescue Course is specifically designed for personnel who work at heights and may be required to provide rescue provisions or who are seeking to expand their knowledge in high angle rescue operations. Candidates should have a valid Working at Heights or Fall Protection certificate (or equivalent). This course builds advanced competency in high angle rope rescue techniques. Through a combination of theoretical and hands-on high angle rescue training, participants will gain the skills and knowledge required to perform complex casualty evacuations across a range of high-risk scenarios. The course covers both pre-assembled and self-assembled rescue systems, including immediate first aid and safe casualty evacuation procedures.

By the end of this high angle rescue training, you will have gained the essential knowledge, skills, and confidence to:

  • Assess a rescue environment effectively to determine the safest and most efficient approach to casualty evacuation.
  • Understand the importance of rescue planning, including why rescue procedures are critical for working at height operations.
  • Identify and inspect personal fall protection equipment (PFPE) and rescue gear to ensure it is safe and fit for use.
  • Install and operate rescue systems, both pre-assembled and improvised, to raise or lower casualties safely.
  • Comply with legal requirements and industry regulations, including an overview of working at height legislation and the hierarchy of controls.
  • Plan and execute high angle rescues using a range of equipment and techniques tailored to various scenarios.
  • Manage casualty care, including packaging the injured person in a stretcher and preparing them for evacuation.
  • Perform pre-use checks and follow best practices for maintaining rescue readiness.
  • Discuss ongoing training and recertification to maintain competence and meet regulatory standards.

Requirements

Participants must be at least 18 years of age and in good physical health.

All candidates are required to be free from any medical conditions or disabilities that could interfere with safe participation in training.

A self-declared statement of fitness must be completed prior to the course.

A working knowledge of English is essential. Participants must be able to understand, speak, read, and write in English to follow course materials and instructions safely and effectively.

Candidate should have a valid Working at Heights or Fall Protection certificate (or equivalent).

We train to 1006 standard. Our High Angle Rescue course is designed to meet strict industry standards, including as outlined by NFPA standards for technical rescue. When you train with MCL Height Safety in Calgary, you are receiving a certification that is widely recognized by employers and regulators across the industry.

To attend the High Angle Rescue training, you must have a valid Fall Protection or Working at Heights certificate (or an equivalent). This ensures all participants have a foundational understanding of safety equipment and fall arrest systems before learning advanced rescue techniques.

The course duration is 2 days. It combines classroom theory with extensive hands-on practical training to ensure you are confident in performing complex casualty evacuations and rope rescue operations.

Upon successful completion, your High Angle Rescue certification is valid for 3 years.

You will gain advanced competency in high-angle rope rescue techniques. The curriculum covers:
