Requirements

Candidates must be fully competent in both practical skills and theoretical knowledge of their current IRATA level before starting an upgrade course.

For example, if you’re currently IRATA Level 1 and applying for IRATA Level 2, you must be able to confidently perform all IRATA Level 1 techniques and answer IRATA Level 1 theory questions prior to training.

If you’re unsure of your current competency level, we strongly recommend a pre-course evaluation. Upgrade courses have limited time for review or refresher training, so confirming your readiness in advance is key.

To qualify for an upgrade assessment, candidates must:

  • Hold a valid IRATA certificate on the day of the assessment.
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of experience and 1,000 logged rope access hours, verified and signed off in an official IRATA logbook

One year of experience means you’re eligible for upgrade one year and one day after your last assessment. For example, If you completed your IRATA Level 1 on April 1, 2020, the earliest you can take IRATA Level 2 is April 2, 2021.

All technicians upgrading or revalidating must present their IRATA logbooks at the start of training. Lost your logbook? You’ll need to arrange for a verified replacement before your assessment. Please contact us, if you need assistance.

If your IRATA certification has expired, please contact us for next steps and guidance on how to proceed.

Verification of your IRATA number and logbook details is mandatory for all revalidations (at any level) and upgrades, which must be submitted before training commencement.
